Frequently asked questions
BE2 Pilates is a Peak Pilates Education Center. Our owner, Julia Hughes, is a Peak Pilates Level III Master Instructor and Mentor offering trainings throughout the year. Visit peakpilates.com for more information and to enroll in Comprehensive Certification at BE2 Pilates.
What should I wear?
Legging or shorts with compression’s underneath, t-shirt or tank top, and sticky/grippy socks. Please avoid clothing with zippers, as they damage the equipment. Thank you!
How long are Pilates sessions?
Every session (whether a private or group class) are 50-55 minutes in length.
I’ve never done Pilates. How do I start?
We recommend the Intro to Pilates package. This package includes five private, one-on-one sessions with one of our certified instructors and a group class, when you’re set. We will teach you Pilates fundamentals and intro-order exercises. In these sessions, we will recommend building blocks and modifications, based on what we see in your body.
I’ve not exercised in years. Should I wait to start Pilates until I’m more fit?
No. We will meet you where you are and get you where you want to be.
Will I lose weight by doing Pilates?
You may... You may not. You will tone and build muscle with Pilates (and remember, muscle weighs more than fat). With consistency, though, you will absolutely notice your body changing. The saying goes, “In 10 sessions you will feel different, in 20 sessions you will look different, and in 30 sessions you will have a whole new body.”
How often should I do Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise that you can do every day. No two sessions are the same! Many of our clients take two sessions a week - but some practice more and others less. Truly, it depends on your schedule and your wallet. If you cannot make it into the studio as much as you'd like, we do offer virtual options and often give "homework" to help you meet your goals both in and out of the studio.
How can I become a Pilates instructor?
Do I really need sticky socks?
Yes. The grips on the bottom of the socks will help keep you steady on the equipment. You can buy them online or in the studio.
If you are pregnant and have never done Pilates, now is not the time to start. Your body is changing as you grow your human and we want to make sure to keep you both safe. We will welcome you into our studio once your baby is delivered and your doctor clears you to work out.
If you’ve been practicing Pilates pre-pregnancy, we will set you up with one of our instructors who is qualified to work with prenatal clients.
I’m newly pregnant and I hear Pilates is good for pregnancy. When can I start?
Absolutely! We have clients of all ages - pre-teens to octogenarians.
My teenager wants to do Pilates. Is he old enough?
English and Korean are our two primary languages. We offer classes and private sessions in both languages throughout the week. Some of our instructors can speak a little Spanish and French, but they are not fluent.
